SERC Nanofabrication and Characterisation Facility

The SERC Nanofabrication and Characterisation (SNFC) facility in Singapore aims to make A*STAR Science and Engineering Research Council's (SERC) extensive research facilities in Nanofabrication and Characterisation techniques accessible to all researchers. The network of facilities embraces all SERC Research Institutes and the facility at IMRE forms the hub of this network providing easy access to a wide range of research equipment and expertise on a variety of techniques.

SNFC at IMRE

The facilities at IMRE include a large clean room, which was purpose-built for research work on a variety of materials as well as an impressive range of major equipment. The maintenance and operations of these IMRE facilities are managed by the SNFC group, and researchers from other organisations are encouraged to base relevant research projects here.

The SNFC staff are dedicated individuals who are trained and experienced in operating the specialised equipment. They are available to conduct trainings for new and inexperienced users. In addition, they provide consultancy and service work which involves running baseline processes and characterisation techniques related to material properties.

The range of baseline fabrication processes offered by SNFC is constantly updated with the results obtained from development work.

Summary

  • SNFC encompasses a network of world class facilities and expertise across all SERC Research Institutes.
  • SNFC offers an extensive range of Nanofabrication and Characterisation services and training on the use of equipment.
  • SNFC staff are highly trained in the use of the equipment and associated processes.
  • Under some approved schemes, qualified members from the community are encouraged to use the tools on their own, after the required training.

Working Models

  • Service - SNFC can perform a variety of service work for you. This ranges from a simple one-stage processing job to full device fabrication from our standard processes, or a characterisation service.
  • Equipment usage - If you plan to use a piece of SNFC equipment regularly, SNFC can either train you or suggest a relevant training course for you. Subsequently, you will attend the compulsory IMRE Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and Cleanroom Orientation briefing sessions and become an authorised user for that particular equipment. Thereafter, you will be able to book the equipment on-line and come into IMRE any time during office hours to use it.
